KENNEWICK, Wash. – State patrol troopers are investigating after a crash Thursday morning involving three vehicles sent two of the drivers to the hospital, and one of the drivers is facing a charge of negligent driving.
According to Washington State Patrol officials, troopers and Kennewick Police Department officials were called to the area of Highway 397 and 10th Avenue at about 8:04 a.m. on October 9 for a reported multi-vehicle crash. Troopers arrived to find three vehicles had been involved in the crash, and two drivers had suffered injuries significant enough to send them to the hospital. A stretch of the road was closed for a few hours while law enforcement officials investigated the crash.
According to WSO, a Mitsubishi Outlander had been headed southbound on the highway near 10th Avenue but turned into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford F-150 that had been headed north. Troopers said a semi-truck that was behind the F-150 also struck the pick-up after the initial collision.
WSP troopers said the driver of the Outlander and the driver of the F-150 were taken to nearby hospitals for injuries suffered in the crash, and both vehicles were totaled. Troopers said the driver of the Outlander was charged with second-degree negligent driving, driving without a seatbelt, and driving without insurance. WSP troopers said the crash was caused by distracted driving.
