Yakima Police investigated what they call a “serious” vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in the area of 10th Avenue and West Nob Hill Blvd Thursday. According to Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray the crash was reported at about 6:21 am.

THE INVESTIGATION IS OVER AND THE ROAD IS OPEN

Eastbound lanes of Nob Hill between 9th Avenue and 11th Avenue were closed for the investigation by the Yakima Police Department’s Traffic Unit. The lanes have re-opened.
Murray says a 29-year-old man was crossing southbound on the west side of the intersection when he was struck in the crosswalk.

THE VICTIM IS BEING TRANSFERRED TO HARBORVIEW IN SEATTLE

The man was injured and taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital. Police say the man suffered a serious head injury and will likely be transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The 70-year-old driver was not injured.

CAR VS. PEDESTRIAN CRASHES KILL A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE STATE EVERY YEAR

Pedestrian vs. vehicle crashes happen a lot in the state. In fact every year in Washington State authorities investigate serious pedestrian accidents which Washington State Patrol officials say account for 12 to 14 percent of all fatal crashes. They say an average of 100 people die every year in the crashes.
60 Percent of the collisions happen on city streets where a lot of folks are walking.
